Thank You & Goodnight

After much consideration, I've decided to step back from weathergc.

I've enjoyed providing updates and volunteering my time - especially during severe weather events. However unless I pay for advertising & promotion out of my own pocket, I'll never reach a wider audience and cannot justify the continued time and expense.

The Facebook page, Twitter account and Blog will remain as an archive, but as of today will be in "offline" mode and will not be monitored or updated.

Please refer to Bureau of Meteorology www.bom.gov.au for all weather and warning information.

Thank you for following, hope to see you sometime again in the future.

Take care, Jeff.

Like us even more on Facebook!

It's official, "weathergc.com" is now officially on Facebook! In addition to our blog here at weathergc.com, and our Twitter account @weathergc, we are proud and excited to announce we are also extending our Gold Coast weather blog and information to the wonderful world of Facebook.

Tide times tweeted twice a day? Terrific!

Gold Coast Seaway tide times will be auto-Tweeted twice a day at 5:30am and again at 5:30pm, with the data sourced from the Bureau of Meteorology's South East Coast Boating Forecast.

We'd love to know what times of the day you'd prefer to receive them? Are there any other locations you'd like to see? Let us know!

What do you want from weathergc?

It's been a while since I've made a post on this site - particularly after the terrible events of the January 2011 floods in Queensland.

Since then, after seeing the devastation and heartache of the floods, and being directly involved in the disaster coordination and recovery efforts in both the Somerset and Lockyer Valley regions - I never regained my motivations to continue to provide commentary on weather events around the Gold Coast and South East Queensland.

I would like to hear your comments on why you came to this site and what you would like to see?

- Historical information or research? (e.g. weather facts for the Gold Coast like records for lowest temps, etc?),
- Find out what the weather is doing now? (e.g. looking for live data on weather observations, satellite images, radars, etc?)
- A single point of reference? (using the Community Pulse or Links and Resources page to find other weather related information on other sites?)
- Review weather news summaries without having to find the articles on multiple different sites yourself?

Additionally, if you are also interested and passionate for weather and related events and live on or near the Gold Coast or even in South-East Queensland and would like to become a contributor to the site, I'd love to hear from you as well.

Thanks for your time.

New auto-alerts of QLD Weather Warnings via Twitter

Overnight we have implemented a feature automatically post to Twitter any new updates for Quensland Weather Warnings from the Weatherzone RSS Feed using twitterfeed. Any of these automatic posts will be prefixed by 'Auto-Alert:'.

At this stage, all updates will be for any warnings for the whole of Queensland, however we are testing filtering options to only broadcast updates relating to the South-East coast forecast districts.

Don't worry, we will still be posting detailed Twitter posts for any warnings that impact the Gold Coast.

Let us know your thoughts and ideas, do you want to see the auto-alerts for all Queensland warnings, or just the Gold Coast/South East region?

Welcome to weathergc.com!

Thanks for visiting weathergc.com, your window to Gold Coast weather!

Our main aim since February 2010 is to provide a place for the residents and visitors to the Gold Coast to share their experiences and knowledge about how the weather is affecting their neck of the woods. We'll also share information and the best links from other official sources including weather forecasts and warnings, observations, satellite & radar imagery , power outages and road/transport closures, etc.

Often when severe weather events occur on the Gold Coast, it can be hours or days before the full extent of what's happened, in what area, to which people. We hope that through our blog (at http://www.weathergc.com), our Twitter updates (via @weathergc) and via our Facebook page (http://facebook.com/weathergc), that everyone can share their personal experiences, local observations as well as photos and videos.

So if it's raining cats and dogs at your place, the couch is floating out the door, or you can't find the candles (but you have your mobile with a Twitter or Facebook account!), we want to know about it! Post a picture, leave a comment, or a Tweet!

Please note that any information posted/tweeted are opinions based on personal experiences and information passed on from other sources for entertainment purposes only. This information may not be accurate, and should not be relied upon as the single point of truth. It is recommended that you refer directly to the official sources of information, forecasts and warnings, etc (i.e. from the Bureau of Meteorology, SES, Energex, etc) to make an informed decision.

Thanks for reading, we look forward to your input and participation!
